Zungri: just a 15-20 minute drive away, rock caves are found that still preserve evidence of prehistoric times.
Scilla: about 1h 10 minutes’ drive away, the jewel in the crown of the Costa Viola, Scilla is dominated by the Ruffo castle and Chianalea, a charming fishing village with its colorful houses overlooking the sea. The legend of the sea monster from Greek mythology, after whom the village is named, adds to the evocative power of the place.
Serra San Bruno: A 1-hour drive away, it is one of the most interesting tourist locations in the Calabrian mountains. The Serre, the famous Carthusian Monastery and the historic center, which features narrow streets, old stone buildings, flowers, stores and as many as nine churches, offer naturalistic, religious and cultural routes of interest.
Reggio Calabria: about 1h 30′ drive away, located on the tip of the boot, the capital city of Reggio overlooks the Strait of Messina with a promenade described by D’Annunzio as “the most beautiful kilometer in Italy.” At the National Archaeological Museum, one of the most symbolic museums of Magna Graecia in Calabria, the Riace Bronzes are not to be missed. Those who want to go shopping will find stores on the main street.
