Pizzo Calabro, history and emotions
Even in Pizzo, the ancient Napitia, it is nice to get lost in the alleys and walk to the squares of the small village perched on a rocky spur, or go down to the marina to enjoy a stroll along the seafront.
Churches and Aragonese Castle
In addition to the Aragonese Castle, an Angevin watchtower built in 1380, where Gioacchino Murat, Napoleon Bonaparte’s brother-in-law, was held prisoner and then executed in 1815, and which now houses a museum, the numerous churches are well worth a visit.
Piazza della Repubblica
A stop at the ice cream parlours in Piazza della Repubblica is a must to taste Tartufo, the first PGI ice cream: original hazelnut, dusted with cocoa, with a heart of dark chocolate, it is also exquisite in liquorice and pistachio flavours.
Pedigrotta Church
Just outside the historic centre, the Piedigrotta church will surprise you with its life-size tuff statues.
